netLibrary eBooks
What are netlibrary eBooks?
eBooks are electronic versions of printed books. eBooks can be viewed
online on any computer connected to the Internet. You can browse eBooks
for quick research and reference or check them out and read them at your
leisure.
The netLibrary eBook Collection is a part of the Electronic Libraries
for Minnesota (ELM) and consists of materials purchased by Minitex and
participating library including University of Minnesota, Crookston Library.
There are more than 10,000 eBooks available to University of Minnesota,
Crookston users and these consist of recent publications by major publishers.
Finding netLibrary eBooks.
The
U M Crookston Catalog plus Internet Resources contains links to the netLibrary eBooks. A search in the catalog
often results records containing links to an eBook. Clicking on the link
in the Library Catalog record will take you to the eBook at the netLibrary
site.
You can also search the eBook collection from the netLibrary site, http://www.netlibrary.com/
There are several ways to search at this site. These include a keyword
search option and more advanced searches including one called Full text
which searches every word in every one of the books in the collection.
Registration.
You can browse
the eBooks and read the content for a short period of time while you are
online using the University of Minnesota, Crookston network either connected directly or through VPN. If you want
to spend a longer period of time reading the book or if you wish to access
the book from outside of the UMC Library using a computer with an Internet
connection, you will need to create an account that identifies you as
an authorized user of the Library's eBooks. When you need the book again you can
check it out again. You can maintain a list of books you are using and
get access with a click.
To register use:
1. Use the Create an account link (found on any netLibrary record or
at www.netLibrary.com)
2. Enter your identifying information (user name, password, e-mail address).
3. Select the Submit button.
Registration must be done while logged on to UMC's network either
on campus or using VPN. After you have created your logon and password
you can access netLibrary titles outside of UMC's network. If you need assistance with creating an account let us know.
